WOW!! that was some rain storm during the night! Even woke me up from a deep sleep... However this morning the sun emerged, and the puddles of that special Kauai 'red dirt', now mud, soon started to dry up.
Definitely a day to head to the beach - and nearby Hanelei beach, of South Pacific fame, was the beach of choice. Great place to surf, if you're young and agile, and a great place to people-watch, if you're not! The slope of the soft, sandy beach is very gradual, so I had a great time jumping around in the waves, among the boogie-boarding kids. I felt tempted to get me one of those boards and join the kids, but resisted the temptation...
After that wonderful beach time, it was off to the local Farmers' Market. to stock up on some fresh produce. There was some very different-looking fruits and veggies, but we stayed with the familiar! (Note to self: must remember to put multi-use bags in the car, ready for when we need to grocery shop, as plastic bags are no longer available at such stores - reducing the risk of plastic getting in the ocean and harming marine life.)
From the Farmers' Market, we 'kept right on to the end of the road' - literally! - past waterfalls, wet and dry caves, twisting and turning over one lane bridges, through a couple of overflowing creeks, until the road teminated at Ke'e beach. The waves there were GIGANTIC!!! No-one was allowed in the water for any reason - far too dangerous! - and the lifeguard was overseeing the beach, from his elevated station, to make sure that this didn't happen! It was quite mesmerizing watching those enormous waves, and listening to the crashing of them breaking a short distance from shore...
Just made the sad discovery that my cable for downloading pictures from my camera didn't make the trip...so I'm afraid there will be no pix to post :-(
