Up to see the sun rise over Nawiliwili Bay, as the 'Sapphire Princess' slipped silently into her berth, gamely assisted by one tiny tug..... Sand between the toes time, as I meandered along the beach, before Sue and I headed off to sample a hearty Hawaiian breakfast at the Kalapaki Beach Shack. Next, a time for planning our day, as we sipped cool drinks (of water!!) in the morning sunshine, before heading off to explore and reconnoitre for future outings. We checked out the Kauai Plantation Railway, at 105-acre Kilohana Plantation Plantation, and we definitely plan to spend time there. However, much as we'd like to see the stunning scenery, cliffs, caves, whales and dolphins along the Na Pali coastline, all catamaran tours seem to involve at least one meal on board - gourmet meals and choppy seas would NOT seem to be a good combination!
In our driving around, we paid Poipu a visit, to see how the Spouting Horn was performing. We had been there last year, but today the spouting was much more dramatic; as waves broke over the rocks, a column of water shot up into the air - just like a geyser - as it was forced through a good-sized fissure in the rock. Lots of cameras clicking!
Then it was time to swing - and swing we did , as we lurched our way across the Swinging Bridge at historic Hanapepe. The bridge was well-preserved, but the historic settlement was decidedly run-down and dilapidated, although it was evident that the odd building must have been impressive in its hey day!
